Development of general formulas for bolted flanges by E.O.Waters
I have a query regarding the derivation "Development of general formulas for bolted flange" by E.O.Waters etc.. which is used in Appendix 2 of ASME Section VIII Division 1.
While calculating strain energy (U2)of hub due to stretching of the inside surface of hub, factor (1-v*v) is not appearing in the denominator. v = poisson's ratio.
As per "Theory of Elastic Stability" By timoshenko, chapter 10 Bending of thin shells, eq. 10-10 (Page 443), factor (1-v*v) should appear in the denominator. I understand that in applying this formula to above derivation, e2 (circumferential strain) is taken as (y / r1 ) and other strains are considered as zero.
Can anyone please help me understand how is the factor (1-v*v) accounted for in this derivation.
Thanks.

First, why you don't post the article here?
It is quite impossible to answer "in blind".
Second, maybe it is worth to reload the explanations given in “Process Equipment Design”, Brownell & Young, , Chapter 12, Design of Flanges.
