Being Simulation Engineer means the engineer is proficient in petrophysics, logging, material balance, decline trend analysis, pressure transient analysis, mathematics, geomechanics and PVT behaviour of fluids, driving mechanisms, waterflooding, enhanced oil recovery and so on.
PRACTICAL RESERVOIR SIMULATION from Mike Carlson is good to start with.
I totally agree with 06pg22. I would also add proficiency in Geology as well.
PS: if you love and enjoy what you do, you'll be good at it.
