Help needed for Final year project

Hi everyone,

I have been given the project for the exploitation study of Tight gas reservoir in lower indus basin of pakistan. But from the discsussion with my supervisor, i am still unable to get the idea about what is needed to be done. (teacher is also using the word "evaluation" of tight gas reservoir alond with "exploitation")

can any one please help me to find the following answers.

1. what are the objectives of such study?

2. What are the contents of this study?

3. What type of data is required for that?

4. completion and stimulation strategies are included in that or not??

Why don't you approach it as a simple resource estimation work. That way, your objectives and methodology would be clear:
1. In-place estimation (bare-bones volumetrics)
2. Have a section for discussion on reservoir properties; define the constraints
3. Run elementary decline analyses on existing wells (if any)
4. Model flow thru implementation of new technology (horizontal wells with multi-stage fracs, for example)
5. Run your techno-economics on the forecast results (with sensitivities on flow rates, forecasts, costs, pricing, exchange rate...etc)

if you are from NED university, contact your seniors they had done very good projects with PPL regarding Tight gas. Moreover, you may also search technical repositories of intl. universities.

thanks for your reply. this surely give me a good outline of the project.
Now coming to the data. i sthink that the above sadi will be requiring logs and core data for volumetric analysis. well test and geological data for the reservoir properties discussion part, while on the model flow and forecast , it will be requiring some assumptions and scopes will be generated.........

Yes...but if it is a producing field all the petrophysical information should be available in the formation evaluation reports. For discussion part, glean info from regional geology, substantiate with drilling records (wellsite geology), cores if any, and transient data. If unavailable, this should form part of your discussion on definition of data gap and data acquisition programme thereon. And yes, for forecasting, use assumptions based on available info.

Oh and I forgot it is gas. You can forecast that very easily and accurately using any well test package.
