Small Field Development
Hi,
I'm an RE about to start work on my first development. It is a small field STOIIP 17 MMSTB to be developed with a single injector/producer pair. I think this can be modelled using a simple material balance model but am being pushed down the simulation route by my boss. I can't see the value of it and would be grateful of other views both for and against the simulation model.

First of all, this thread supposed to be in the Reservoir section. I am sure you will get more response from engineers than explorationists.
Anyway, in my opinion, both you and your boss could be right. In the case of the reservoir that behaves like a simple tank both material balance and reservoir simulation (it's a material balance too ;p) may give you a similar result. However, when you reservoir geology is complex, e.g faulted, or segmented due to sedimentation or diagenesis, they can be very different.

Hello srh78, how did you solve the issue with the MB or simulation? please let me know.
I know I will soon be in the same type of position as you when I'm doing my project work for my Masters. Please advise.
Thanks.
