B2 Seismic ASCE standards
Hi guys,
I was given a task to design a tank based on C2 seismic, however, the client gave me an added 'B2' as part of the seismic calculation. When I asked what is 'B2' actually stands for. He let me to calculation under 'Static Equipment' through a simple guide of 'Seismic requirement summary' that based much on ASCE 7-10 standards. However, after going through the standards, I just assumed that B2 is Static Equipment.
What I understand is C2 is Category 2.. and B2 is Static Equipment... Correct me if I am wrong...
There is also 2/3 MCER and OBE which baffles me, is there any guides or book that can let me understand all this terms. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
p.s: My communication with the guy is buffered and so far it is difficult to have a proper communication.
Re: B2 Seismic ASCE standards
Being Tank design, You may refer to API 650 Appendix E and API 620 appendix L which would clear all your doubts. Refer also presentation on same at www.linuserve.com

Re: B2 Seismic ASCE standards
..I never came across this B2. However I used appendix E of API 650. There are also good examples there! from which I have made a couple of spreadsheets ( one for anchored and the other for un-anchored fixed roof tanks).
What looks left in the air is: tanks with floating roofs

That is what puzzling me, I went through the standards and I never find anything referencing to seismic B2.
Re: B2 Seismic ASCE standards
Check out if there is confusion in codes. He is probably referring to Seismic Zone 2B and Occupancy Category 2 of UBC code.
