      Re: Excel spreadsheets

      I would appreciate if anyone can help me to find how I can go from fraction mol to fraction volume, because I only have already found the convertion from fraction mol to fraction weigth and viceversa.

      Thanks in advanced

        Re: Excel spreadsheets

        you can convert a component i in a mixture from mole fraction to volume fraction

        xvi = zi * xmi / SUM(zi*xmi)

        where zi is the compressibility factor of component i

        of course for SUM(xmi) = 1

        SUM(zi*xmi) = Zmix

        and at low pressure and temperature you can assume Z = 1.0 which means that for ideal gas mole fraction = volume fraction
        however that is not true for real gas,
        you can calculate compressibility factors or derivatives of volume vs. composition (which gives equivalent results) with a software like Prode Properties (see prode.com) or follow this thread

        Dear Carlo

        This formula that you mention result very useful, please could you give me the bibliography where I can found the formula. Of course if can you recommend me another bibliography for natural gas would be great.

        Thanks best regards

          Re: Excel spreadsheets

          jorge,
          the above is the same to

          Vmix = SUM(Vi)

          where Vi is the volume fraction of component i
          which is basic thermodynamics.
          As said you can calculate the different volume fractions with a EOS (for example Soave-Redlich-Kwong or Peng-Robinson) or another accurate correlation,
          you may need the derivatives of volume vs. compositions to calculate the different volume fractions,
          different derivatives (vs. composition, temperature, pressure) are available in Prode Properties (see 'www.prode.com') or other tools that integrate directly with Microsoft Excel.
