Make sure you are not running PRO/II v8.1. This may be verified through Task Manager in Windows 2000, Windows 2003 and XP. 2. To receive this Service Pack, copy and unzip the PROII81-----3.zip file on your system. 3. When prompted, enter the path to the directory where you want the files to be unpacked (for example, C:\TEMP\PROII81). Important: when you unzip the files, make sure to select the "use folder names" option (or equivalent) so that the required subdirectory structure is created at the location where the file is unzipped. 4. After the file has been unzipped, go to the directory where the files were extracted (for example, C:\TEMP\PROII81) then go into the subdirectory "P2813". Double click on setup.exe to begin installing the PRO/II -----. This setup will install the PRO/II -----, updated Reports, S4M Portal, TDM and Hysys(R) to PRO/II translator. 5. Select the "Next" Button on the Welcome Screen and then verify the Path where the files are to be copied. 6. Select the "Finish" button. The ----- will be copied onto your hard drive and will automatically begin installing. 7. In some file conversion and file import cases there could be an ambiguity in which databanks should be used. This may result in a file that points to the wrong databank, or simply doesn't produce a usable file for v8.1.x. This ----- strengthens the logic and gives the user more opportunity to make the correct unambiguous databank selection. On import, if a databank is not found among the registered list, PRO/II will now issue the appropriate error message as before, and the import continues to open. Previously all record of the unregistered name disappears from the resulting .prz file. Now the file name appears on the Databank Hierarchy list with an indication that the library is unregistered. If nothing else is wrong with the file, the resulting PFD will open and display a red component data button to indicate the missing data, giving the user an opportunity to correct the problem by registering the file via TDM. Similarly, if a .prz file is opened and no registered library matches the library found in that file, the file still opens and the component data button will display red. ************************************************** ** * New in PRO/II v8.1.2 * ************************************************** ** Heavy Oil Characterization There is a new petroleum characterization procedure "Heavy Oil" available for criticals properties, ideal-gas enthalpy and molecular weight. This method is an extension of the of the current SimSci (Twu) method. The original Twu cor- relation is applicable up to a Normal Boiling Point (NBP) of 1000 K (1340 єF). The Heavy Oil option is intended for the extrapolation of critical properties and molecular weight to NBP's well beyond 1000 K. The keyword implementation of this method is given on the ASSAY statement. ASSAY ..., CHARACTERIZE= SIMSCI or CAVETT or CAV80 or LK or EXTAPI or HEAVYOIL, & MOLW= SIMSCI or API64 or API87 or LK or EXTAPI or HEAVYOIL, ... The HEAVYOIL keyword selects the new feature. The default remains SIMSCI. To select this via the GUI, access is provided on by pressing the assay button on the toolbar, then navigate to Assay Cutpoints ==> Characterization Options ==> Criticals, Ideal-gas Enthalpy and Molecular Weight drop-down lists. In addition to the new Heavy Oil method, some additional access to charac- terization methods previously available only through keywords was added to the GUI. They are: Characterization - Cavett 1980 and Extended API 1980 Molecular weight - Cavett 1980 and Lee Kessler References: The method is described in a paper presented by Cal Spencer at the AIChE Spring Meeting in New Orleans in 2005. New Kinematic Viscosity Methods There are three new methods for calcuating kinematic viscosity. They are the Maxwell method, the Refutas method and the Chevron Bending Function Two. The Maxwell and Chevron are volumetric blending methods. The Refutas is a weight blending method. These methods are in addition to the SimSci, Index, User- formula and User-index methods available in prior versions of PRO/II. The keyword implementation is given on the METHOD statement. SIMSCI is the default. METHOD .., KVIS=SIMSCI or REFUTAS or CHEVRON or MAXWELL or INDEX or USFO or USIN, ... GUI access is given via the Thermodyanmic Data DEW ==> Modify ==> Refinery Inspection Properties. Select the Kinematic Viscosity Property. The seven methods are selected from the Method drop-down list box. Reference: Guide to Petroleum Product Blending by HIPE Consultants, Inc., 1989. Limited Office 2007 Support for the PRO/II Portal Prior to v8.1.2 the PRO/II Portal would not work with Excel 2007. You can now use Excel 2007 in compatibility mode. The following is a more detailed list of limitations. These will be addressed in v8.2. 1. Compatibility Mode A new portal file gets created only in .xls format (Excel 97- 2003 Workbook: Compatibility Mode). While using a portal file in .xls format, there is con- straint of having data within 65536th row and 256th (IV) column only. 2: Opening 2007 Excel Portal File When the user saves the portal file with .xls format (using Save-As option) to any other 2007 format like .xlsx, .xlsm etc., the new formatted file can be connected to the simulation only by Doubleclick. The same file cannot be connected to the simulation through PRO/II GUI or through standalone mode. 3: Re-using 2007 Excel Portal File If the user wants to re-use the same 2007 portal file (.xlsx, .xlsm) through PRO/II GUI or standalone mode as well, then it needs to be saved back in .xls format. (EXCEL 97-2003 Workbook: Compatibility Mode). But if the original 2007 Portal file has has data on and beyond 65536th row and/or 256th column, an "Office document customization is not available" error pops up. 4: Clicking on cancel in Compatibility Checker dialog pops up exception Launch PORTAL in standalone mode, create a new file, connect to ay prz, and drag drop any writeable variables change the value and click on run button. Close the PORTAL file Compatibility checker dialog pops up click on continue button. The file gets saved in compatibility mode. Double click the created portal file. The compatibility checker dialog pops up. Click on Cancel button. Exception pops up. To avoid this, when Compatibility checker dialog pops up always select "continue" button. 5: In office 2007 Excel Portal file, selecting complete excel sheet (Ctrl+A) throws an exception If the user drag-drops any parameter with UOM on 2007 Excel Portal file and then selects the whole worksheet by clicking Ctrl+A, an exception error message pops up. 6: Regional and language settings: It is recommended to have regional options setting to be "English (USA)". This option is available at Start 'Control Panel'Regional and Language Settings Regional Options tab. If any language other than English (USA) is selected, then after drag-drop of a vector onto the portal spreadsheet, an error message pops up. 7: Windows XP Operating System other than English If the operating system is Windows XP in any language other than English, then user is required to delete this registry key in order to view the flow sheet explorer/action pane. By default Chemdist will continue to use the Log of the composition. The user can now select a Linear iteration variable, or select an Adaptive method which changes the iteration variable of trace components as required. The keyword implementation of these methods is given on the PARAMETER statement. LOG is the default. PARAMETER CHEMDIST,...,CVARIABLE=LOG or LINEAR or ADAPTIVE To make an alternative selection via the GUI, access is provided on the Column DEW ==> Convergence Data ==> Composition Variable Option. This drop down has three options: Log, Linear and Adaptive. The default choice is Log.When Log is chosen, Chemdist solves the distillation problem using ln(mole fraction) as the composition iteration variable. This allows the vapor liquid equilibrium equation (VLE) to be written in the ln form ln(y) = ln(K) + ln(x) For most non-ideal thermodynamic methods, ln(K) is more linear than K. Writing the VLE equation in this log form linearizes the equation and helps many chem- icals problems to converge robustly. However, writing this form gives a high weighting to trace components. For certain problems with many trace components (i.e. composition below 1e-16) it was found that the Jacobian matrix became almost singular leading to poor convergence characteristics. When Linear is selected, Chemdist will solve on x rather than ln(x). The VLE is written in the familiar linear form y = Kx This reduces the impact of the trace components in the overall MESH (Mass, Energy, Summation, enthalpy) equation set. For the Adaptive solution option, at the start of each column solution all com- ponents on all trays are set to Log. As the solution proceeds, Chemdist will switch each component iteration variable on each tray to Linear whenever it determines that that component is a trace component. Once a component on a given tray is determined to be a trace component it will not be switched back again to Log. Adaptive is recommended if Chemdist fails to solve or is solving more slowly than expected, and trace components are present. Should that also fail, Linear can be tried. If the column comes to a converged solution the results will be the same within the domain created by the specified tolerances regard- less of iteration variable chosen. The Linear and Adaptive choices are valid with Chemdist simulations that have VLE. Chemdist columns with reactions (including those with reaction procedures) are handled. Chemdist with VLLE, liquid-liquid extractors (LLEX) and electro- lytic distillation columns (ELDSIT) do not support Linear or Adaptive compo- sition iteration variables. ************************************************** ** * Windows Server 2003 Operating System Note * ************************************************** ** PRO/II fails to launch with the defualt DEP setting on Windows Server 2003. To correct this problem, right-click on My Computer ==> Advanced Tab ==> Performance Settings ==> Data Execution Prevention Tab.By default, the bottom radio button "Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select". To enable PRO/II to run, select the top button "Turn on DEP for essential Windows programs and services only. A reboot will be required before this setting takes effect. ************************************************** ** * Defects corrected in PRO/II v8.1.3 (----- 3) * ************************************************** ** Number Feature Description LFPE#24330 AutoGUI Using the AutoGUI and upplying a simple .ini, and .xml file, it's impossible to re-enter Supplemental data. LFPE#24263 Component If the user has not supplied properties for a component, then changing NBP or Grav of a com- ponent should cause the criticals to change. If you change the NBP of a component, Tc changes, but Pc, Vc, Zc and acentric factor do not. LFPE#24242 Reactor Heat of reaction may be wrong when heats of formation for non-library components are given on a weight basis. LFPE#24149 TDM Parameter values that are not supplied by the Integration user in TDM are written to the databank as "Missing" (i.e., -1.5e35). For example, when 3-parameter NRTL parameters are supplied, the remaining 5 parameters are set to missing rather than 0.0. This may result in large errors or errors that are not perceptable. NRTL and UNIQUAC are known to be affected. SRK is known not to be affected. HIPE#16833 TDM Rather than erroring it out, the PRO/II GUI should Integration be in an "unsatisfied state" when an file contains user defined databank which is not registered through TDM. This will allow the user to correct the problem through TDM launced via PRO/II. HIPE#17483 Thermo Pro/II is picking up the wrong coefficients from the user-supplied LBWRS Pure databanks. LFPE#24222 Thermo The TBC EOS does not accept the user supplied library in the databank search order. HIPE#17631 Thermo Get the following erroneous error message when TBC parameters are accessed from a registered user library: *** error *** For databank(s) specification "test2:regress", "test2 ro-wat", "test2:eta-wat" either library is not registered or the databank could not be found in the library. Please open the thermodynamic data manager to view the available libraries/databanks and make any necessary changes. ************************************************** ** * Defects corrected in PRO/II v8.1.2 (----- 2) * ************************************************** ** Number Feature Description HIPE#17537 Assay Files with user supplied refinery inspection properties for assay-generated components fails with message about duplicate property values for component 0. This feature worked in v7.0 and earlier. LFPE#22606 Calculator kcal/kg-C is not recognized as a Cp unit even though it is given as the default option for Metric. LFPE#23737 Calculator Calculator with bad syntax in Procedure section allows OK to PFD. On reopen the entire Procedure section is gone and Procedure sections in other Calculators are bad as well (even if they don't have syntax errors). If the syntax is fixed all is well and this corruption doesn't occur. LFPE#24088 Cape Open In one case, PRO/II failed to make the call to the Cape Open client to expose the stream port. HIPE#14390 Column In one case, Chemdist column fails to invoke VLLE check. Final solution appears to be done with VLE thermo even though a bp flash of the stage 1 liquid shows two liquid phases. HIPE#17230 Column In some IO columns the enthalpy balance is not met, apparantly in violation of the enthalpy tolerance. However, the solution history printout shows the enthalpy balance to have been met. HIPE#17244 Column The PRU (re-initialization utility) fails on a file where the column has its profile estimates initialized from solution. HIPE#17342 Column In some EIO columns the enthalpy balance is not met, apparantly in violation of the enthalpy tolerance. However, the solution history shows that the enthalpy tolerance is met. HIPE#17542 Column After file import, entering the duty on a column reboiler does not persist after OKing to PFD and returning to the data entry window. Columns laid down new work OK. HIPE#17622 Column Starting with v8.1.1, after importaing some assay files using API 1994 interconversion method, changing the method to API 1987 and then running causes the column to freeze during solution. Export/Import clears. LFPE#23324 Column A standalone IO column with a thermosiphon reboiler solves the first time you run, solves again, then fails the third time you run. LFPE#23741 Column IO column with non-MW solids feed may not mass balance on solids. LFPE#23743 Column Non-MW solids are not supported by the SURE column. However, there is no test for Non-MW solids in the feed so the column solves to a solution and simply discards the solids. HIPE#17259 Component The basis change to UOM basis from mole to mass does not persist in the Temperature dependent component properties window. HIPE#16779 ExcelUaUOP The Excel Unit Op loses solids flow going in and solids flow going out from the Excel unit operation. HIPE#17629 File The .slb file does not get created when we laydown a flowsheet from scratch. This prevents the translator from converting files to other SimSci products like Dynsim. LFCR#3240 Flash Following a Reset unit operation, in one case, the phase designation of the flash product stream is incorrect. LFCR#3290 Flash A DP-P flash with 96% H2 failed to converge to the right answer. The result was 9 C when it should have been 18 C. HIPE#17541 HXRig In some cases the HXRIG using the Chen model doesn't converge when it should. The same file using HEX5 works OK. LFPE#24013 Output Report The phone and fax numbers for the Japanese technical support office are incorrect in the banner page when a keyword file is run through Run/Batch or the command line. LFPE#23690 PFD After file run/export/import, there is residual PFD color from the previous run which is no longer valid after the import. LFPE#23967 Pipe In one case, the Calc Max Line velocity of a Pipe unit operation is incorrect due to a bad units of measure conversion. LFPE#23427 Reaction Data You cannot supply an exponent to a solid component for a reaction equilibrium expression. LFCR#3328 Reactor Adding PFR via GUI results in a variable out-of- range error and subsequent abort in procedure section. Export, import and the file works OK. LFCR#3192 Recycle At ultra high purity, direct substitution is used instead of Broyden/Wegstein for recycle convergence, even when specified otherwise. LFPE#23232 Spec Vary You cannot spec or use for case study entropy through the GUI. Define The units of measure are not accepted. LFPE#24092 Spec Vary The calculator values obtained from a Depressuring Define Valve Constant is displayed incorrectly in View Results and in the standard output report. It values are correct in the Stream Property Table. The problem is due to a bad units of measure conversion. HIPE#17428 Spreadsheet If Tools/Spreadsheet is run from two separate Tools simulations using the same working directory, you get an error message from the second instance that it can't open Excel. Note, the fix implemented for this defect will fix the case that two instances of the SAME version of PRO/II. However, for the case of DIFFERENT versions of PRO/II this error message will still occur. HIPE#17568 Spreadsheet The liquid mole fraction report in Tools/Spreadsheet Tools streams report contains the fraction HC rather than the fraction HC+water. LFPE#24049 Stream In some cases, using Tools/Spreadsheet may cause an Property extra PRO/II license seat to be consumed. Table LFPE#24089 Stream Stream Property Table gives incorrect values for Property Total Liquid Component Fraction & Percent. This Table worked in v8.1.0, but is bad in v8.1.1. LFPE#23835 Tags The ODBC interface supplied with PRO/II is incompatible with Datacon and vice-versa. Needs to be versioned os that the application points to the right ODBC interface. LFPE#23532 Thermo The SimSci supplied NRTL(VLE) parameters for dimethylamine-methanol are wrong. LFPE#24102 Tool Tip The tooltips display when you move the cursor over a stream may display the wrong units of measure after a View Results and Run operation. This has been demonstrated when the UOMs selected are metric, but the tooltips displays English. ************************************************** ** * Defects corrected in PRO/II v8.1.1 (----- 1) * ************************************************** ** Number Feature Description HIPE#17355 ACE In one case, a poorly specified ACE unit properly fails on run, only to "solve" to a bad solution when run a second time from the GUI. The calculated pressure drop from the first run replaces the user specified pressure drop, which is incorrect. LFCR#3149 Amsim PRO/II blocks a simulation containing missing CO2 and\or H2S in the feed from running in AMSIM. However, the AMSIM standalone program will run and converge with the same file. HIPE#17452 Assay On importing a file with no API interconversion method selected, selection of API87 during the import dialogue is sometimes not being honored. API 94 may be selected instead. LFPE#23560 Batch Opening an older version .prz file into v8.1 Distillation may result in the following warning message that UN-BATCHRRAC mapping not available. This is a spurious message and is unrelated to whether there are any BATCHFRAC units in the flowsheet. HIPE#17185 Cape Open With multiple thermo sets, it's possible that Cape Open HTRI might use property values different from the one assigned to the CO unit in PRO/II. LFPE#23782 Cape Open Cape Open units will accept the components from PRO/II in the correct order, but the CAS numbers might be in incorrect order. HIPE#17425 Case Study In one case, the parameter in the Case Study Parameters and Results DEW is lost after viewing the Case Study Tables. The parameter shows up as missing and red in the link text. LFPE#23684 Component The SimSci databank is missing ideal enthalpy and saturated liquid enthalpy data for disilane. LFPE#23706 Component The boiling point for iron (Fe) is incorrect. LFPE#23316 Component The file converter to v8.0 does not preserve information on user supplied databanks. The result is, component and thermo data is sought in Simsci/Process databanks and not in the user/Simsci/Process order which is wrong, no warning, . HIPE#8013 Column Sure column with freewater arrives at a solution but the equilibrium conditions for tray 2 does not match standalone flash. HIPE#8195 Column Sure column with freewater and an attached condenser. The hx does not result in the same temperatures as tray 2 and tray 1. Probably due to incorrect thermo state in column. Eliminate water in the feed and the attached hx is OK. HIPE#11856 Column In one example, the Sure Column liquid side draw is not at bubble point when flashed in a downstream flash drum unit op. HIPE#16582 Column Some files with electrolyte thermo methods do not convert from a previous version to v8.1 PRO/II. CR#3037 Column A converged reactive distillation column will no longer solve when the pressure is changed very slightly and the rerun. LFCR#3158 Column V/L plots generated to the Output\Generate Plot\Vapor and Liquid Compositions menu item are incorrect when solids are present. LFCR#3159 Column The column loading report for enthalpies and densities may be incorrect when solids are present. LFPE#23595 Column In one case, using Column Estimates from Solution removed the input pressure profile. LFCR#3139 Component Changing the basis (from Mole to Mass) for Solid Heat Capacity in the "Component Properties - Correlation Section" DEW does not persist. When you return the DEW it's back to Mole basis. HIPE#17297 Component When the heat of formation is given for a solid phase component, it is exported into a keyword file with the heat of formation designated for the vapor phase. For a solid-only component, this is trapped when imported as an input error. LFPE#23351 Cross Checks After changing the order of stream specifications in a splitter, a controller that varies what used to be the last spec is flagged as bad when it shouldn't be. HIPE#17078 Data In the Data Review Window, displaying Cp in Review Window kcal/kg-C works OK. However, if you then change the global energy units to foot-pounds, and then redisplay the Data Review Window, the numeric value changes but the UOM display still shows kcal/kg-C. HIPE#17411 Excel For an Excel Unit Op with a pure component product Unit Op stream, PRO/II does not do a T=P flash of the product when H is not given. Instead, it does a P-H flash with junk values for H. LFPE#23603 ExcelUaUOP Solid components are lost when put through an Excel Unit Op. LFPE#23428 ExcelUaUOP The Excel Unit Op full path/file name for the .xls file can't be more than 64 characters for export/import round-trip. LFPE#23672 Flash Using Flory-Huggins thermo, a flash with a zero-flow component may give incorrect results. LFPE#23504 Flash When exporting to a keyword file, the DEFINE of an equilibrium stream rate for a dew or bubble point stream is not written out right when another DEFINE exists in the flash unit. In some file conversion and file import cases there could be an ambiguity in which databanks should be used. This may result in a file that points to the wrong databank, or simply doesn't produce a usable file for v8.1.x. This ----- strengthens the logic and gives the user more opportunity to make the correct unambiguous databank selection. On import, if a databank is not found among the registered list, PRO/II will now issue the appropriate error message as before, and the import continues to open. Previously all record of the unregistered name disappears from the resulting .prz file. Now the file name appears on the Databank Hierarchy list with an indication that the library is unregistered. If nothing else is wrong with the file, the resulting PFD will open and display a red component data button to indicate the missing data, giving the user an opportunity to correct the problem by registering the file via TDM.
